Non-Contact Infrared Thermometers

Infrared Thermometers Suppliers will share this article with you.

There are several ways to measure a person's body temperature. One way to measure the surface temperature of the human body is to use non-contact infrared thermometers (NCITs). It can be used to reduce the risk of cross-contamination and minimize the risk of disease transmission. Although 98.6°F (37.0°C) is generally considered the "normal" temperature, some studies have shown that the "normal" body temperature can be in a wide range, from 97°F (36.1°C) to 99°F ( 37.2°C). Before using NCITs, it is important to understand the benefits, limitations, and proper use of these thermometers. Improper use of NCITs may result in inaccurate temperature measurement.

Benefits of NCITs

Non-contact methods can reduce the risk of spreading diseases between assessees

Easy to use

Easy to clean and disinfect

Measure temperature and quickly display readings

Provides the ability to quickly re-measure the temperature

Limitations of NCITs

How and where the NCIT is used may affect the measurement results (for example, head cover, environment, forehead position).

The close distance required to correctly measure a person's body temperature represents the risk of spreading disease between the person using the device and the person being assessed.

Use NCIT correctly

The person using the device should strictly follow the manufacturer's guidelines and instructions for use for the specific NCIT being used. The manufacturer's instructions for use usually include the following information and recommendations for proper use:

Prepare the environment and NCIT:

The operating environment may affect the performance of NCIT. The instructions will usually include recommendations for best use, such as:

Use in an unventilated space, away from direct sun or radiant heat sources.

Determine whether the conditions of use are optimal. Under normal circumstances, the ambient temperature should be between 60.8-104ºF (16-40ºC) and the relative humidity should be below 85%.

Please place NCIT in the test environment or room for 10-30 minutes before use to adapt it to the environment.

Cleaning between uses:

When cleaning the NCIT between each use, follow the instructions in the cleaning and disinfection section of the product instructions. Most NCITs should not be immersed in water or other liquids.

Preparing the person being evaluated:

When preparing to use NCIT for temperature measurement, the person using NCIT should usually make sure that:

The forehead test area is clean, dry and free of blockage during measurement.

The patient's body temperature or the temperature of the forehead test area did not increase or decrease due to wearing too much clothing or head covers(such as headbands, headscarves) or using facial cleansing products (such as makeup wipes).

Use the NCIT:

As mentioned earlier, the person using the device should strictly follow the manufacturer's guidelines and instructions for use for the specific NCIT being used. In particular, the following is a typical description of the use of NCIT.

During the measurement, keep the NCIT sensing area perpendicular to the forehead and instruct the subject to remain still.

The distance between the NCIT and the forehead is specific to each NCIT. For the correct measurement distance, please refer to the manufacturer's instructions.

Do not touch the sensing area of NCIT, keep the sensor clean and dry.
